Get the Dirt on our Garden

The St. Patrick Discovery Garden is located on a parish-owned property adjacent to the school. The garden offers opportunities for fun and physical activity while serving as an important educational tool to help students understand how healthy food is produced. Our garden is truly an outdoor classroom that serves not only as an area of learning—about nature, life sciences, nutrition and other subjects—but also a continuing lesson in respecting the environment and taking pride in our school.

The garden is used by teachers who integrate it into their curriculum and an after-school garden club, sessions of which are offered once or twice a year. Students have grown and harvested bushels of produce (beets, kale, tomatoes, peppers, and even wheat), planted fruit trees and a grapevine, developed a butterfly garden, made homemade lip balm using herbs, created artwork made from organic materials, learned how to compost, and much more.

The garden began as an idea in 2013 and was brought to life during the 2013-2014 school year by parents, community volunteers, and numerous corporate partners and donors who provided crucial support. Special recognition goes to our corporate sponsors Greenbrier, Bestscape, Dixieline, Specialty Produce, EDCO, The Tractor Room, and North Park Trophy & Award.
