Students undergo various methods of assessing
academic progress. Within each classroom or subject area students are given tests or exams. This type of testing is designed to measure a student's progress related
to given goals and objectives for a particular class or subject. Once corrected and assigned
a score, a teacher knows the quantity and quality of a student’s understanding of the particular
academic objective tested.
Additionally, students are tested annually using the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. This type of testing is referred to as standardized testing. It is
designed to measure a student's understanding in the areas of reading, math, language, and study skills in relation to a national
set of norms (standards). It provides the school with valuable information related to the overall
effectiveness of our academic program in relation to the needs and ability levels of our students.
Also, the school is able to determine the progress of students on a year-to-year basis. The results are given to parents,
usually at the end of the second quarter (this depends solely on the company’s ability to send the results to the school
in a timely fashion). Students in Grades 4 and 7 are given a test called the Cogat.
This test is designed to measure a student's learning ability level.
